Amanda Cavazos Weems
ATX + Art + Swimming + Labor + Justice
Amanda Cavazos Weems is a multidisciplinary artist, who primarily focuses her practice on painting and printmaking. Her text-based multiples often share her experience as a working class woman of color attempting to make social change in Texas. Her work draws from her experience as a union member, labor activist, and socialist organizer, and seeks to bring others into the struggle for collective liberation. Amanda Cavazos Weems’ abstract multimedia paintings seek to transform common household materials including salt and coffee into meditations on political turmoil and visions of an alternate, anti-capitalist reality. She is also one half of the Art Industrial Complex with Gabriel Torres Rodriguez.
